How Northeast Lakeview College Turned Campus Life Into a Custom Lotería Game
What if a campus tour, career fair, and Lotería game could all be combined into one?
For Northeast Lakeview College, part of Alamo Colleges District, we helped create a custom Lotería game designed specifically for students. The game was created for a Career & Student Life Lotería event hosted by Career Services and Student Life.
The goal was to create something fun and familiar that would also introduce students to the people, places, organizations, and resources that are part of their college experience.
Creating a Lotería Around Campus Life
Rather than using a traditional set of Lotería images, we worked with college staff to develop cards that were specific to Northeast Lakeview College.
The set included a mix of:
Important places around campus
Student associations and organizations
Campus resources
Career and student themes
College traditions and recognizable details
Fun student references
One of the cards we created was Nico's Lemonade, inspired by Nico, Northeast Lakeview College's mascot.
We also featured student associations and important college locations, turning familiar parts of campus into something students could recognize while playing.
Designing a Custom Lotería With the College
One of the most important parts of a custom Lotería is deciding what should actually become a card.
For this project, we collaborated directly with staff to determine which places, organizations, and themes would make the most sense for students.
That collaboration helped us create a game that wasn't simply branded with the college's name. The cards were designed around the actual student experience.
This is one of our favorite parts of creating custom Lotería games: the design can be built around the people playing it.
For a college, that could mean campus buildings, student organizations, mascots, school traditions, career resources, or even inside jokes that students will recognize.
Making Career Services More Interactive
The event was designed to connect students with Career Services and Student Life in a relaxed environment.
Students could play Lotería, enjoy free pizza, connect with college staff, learn about campus resources, and compete for prizes.
Instead of making the event feel like a traditional information session, the custom game gave students something interactive to participate in.
And because the Lotería was built specifically around Northeast Lakeview College, the game itself became another way to introduce students to their campus community.
